Staff Reporter SHILLONG, Mar 09: After many years of anxious waiting, the dream has been ultimately released. Kynrongum hamlet of Rangbihbih village, about 10 kms from Shillong, which was much neglected and living in darkness due to non availability of electric power, at long last can enjoy modern amenities like their close neighbours. If the long cherished dream of the villages finally materialized, it was thanks to the efforts of the headman, Wilfred Sohtun and the Executive Committee (EC) of the local dorbar, who never remained idle for more than a year until the mission has been finally accomplished.
When contacted Sohtun, expressed his feelings of joy and happiness over the success of the whole matte. However, h e told that his efforts would not have borne fruits, if it were not for the continual support that he received from the officers and staff of Meghalaya State Electricity Board (MeSEB). Among these officers, he mentioned the names of S J Laloo, CEO; D. Saibon, DGM; O Khyllep, SDO and Nongdhar, ES. The hamlet, comprising of more than 130 households and about a 1,000 inhabitants was overjoyed when they obtained 25 electric posts from which they could get house connection. It is also learned that during Phase I, 18 beneficiaries from other hamlets of Rangbihbih village could avail of the free one-bulb electrification under the Jyothi Kutir meant for BPL families. Hopefully, during Phase II, similar facilities will be extended to BPL families of Kynrongum hamlet. This shows that with the determined efforts of the headman and the EC of local dorbar in coordination with the officers and staff of the department concerned, many developments can be implemented.
