Ranchi, Sept. 08 (IANS):

Jharkhand Governor M.O.H. Farook is likely to invite Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national general secretary Arjun Munda to form government in the state after getting the green signal from New Delhi, sources here said.

Farook Tuesday night sent a report to the union home ministry, recommending that President’s Rule be lifted and detailing the political situation. He is also learnt to have sent a list of legislators supporting a BJP-led government led by Munda after being asked to.

 

The BJP Tuesday staked claim to form a government with the backing of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and with Munda as the new chief minister. Jharkhand has been under President’s Rule since June 2.

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad’s brother-in-law Subhash Yadav is likely to desert him and join the Congress ahead of the Bihar assembly elections in October-November, party sources said.

Subhash Yadav, the youngest of Lalu Prasad’s three brothers-in-law, felt he was being sidelined and was angry at being denied a renomination to the Rajya Sabha, said a RJD leader. Last year, his brother Sadhu Yadav, alias Anirudh Prasad Yadav, left the RJD to join the Congress shortly before the Lok Sabha elections.

Mobile phones, marijuana recovered from Orissa jail PDF Print E-mail

Bhubaneswar, Sept. 08 (IANS):

Four mobile phones, seven chargers, 250 gm of contraband ganja (marijuana) and several other objectionable items were seized by police from a high-security jail in Orissa Wednesday, officials said.

A team of policemen and senior district officials raided different wards and cells of the sub-jail at Kendrapada, some 93 km from here, which has among its inmates several hardcore criminals.

State-owned National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) is scouting for mines in South Africa and Mozambique, a top company official said here Wednesday.

"We have a tie-up with Tata Steel for jointly acquiring foreign assets. They are doing something in Mozambique and we also would like to participate with them, so that we can acquire coking coal asset in Mozambique in association with Tata Steel," Rana Som, chairman-cum-managing director, told reporters on the sidelines of a seminar organised by Confederation of Indian Industry.

Sudarsan wins people’s choice prize in Canada PDF Print E-mail

Bhubaneswar, Sept. 08 (IANS):

Orissa based sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik’s sculpture of Lord Ganesha won the people’s choice prize at the Canadian National Exhibition’s first international sand sculpting competition.

Pattnaik was the only Indian who participated in the competition held from Aug 20 to Aug 25 at Heritage city in Toronto. 

The competition saw six artists from across the globe — Russia, the Netherlands, Canada, the US, Singapore and India. 

Each competitor worked with 10 tonnes of sand for five days.
